The Confrérie du Sabre d’Or is a worldwide organization celebrating the ritual of Champagne sabrage and the enjoyment of tasting the stars,
as Dom Perignon sensed drinking this noble wine.
Champagne sabrage dates back to the days of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), who is said to have cherished Champagne out of bottles opened with a sabre after every battle. “After the victory you deserve it, after the defeat you need it” the Emperor has been quoted.
Throughout the year and around the Kingdom we coordinate regular, prestigious gourmet events at favorable conditions for our members and their guests. The art of sabrage can also be performed in the growing number of Caveaux de Sabrage ranging from small restaurants and wine bars to luxury hotels.
The Confrérie du Sabre d’Or is endorsed by all Champagne producers and has been founded in Paris in 1986 by Grand Maître Jean-Claude Jalloux and a group of French Champagne enthusiasts. The Thailand Chapter has been celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018 and was founded by Henry Widler, our Governor Asia-Pacific.
